Spring Show 2019

Despite the very warm February when all the gardens burst into bloom several weeks earlier than usual, there was still an excellent array of daffodils, tulips, spring flowers, pot plants and vegetables on display for the many visitors to our Spring Show that took place at Ickenham village Hall on Saturday 6^th April.

The many people who visited the Show throughout the afternoon were greeted with beautiful blooms alongside some amazing handicrafts and cookery and wine exhibits. There was also a photographic competition which boasted some amazing close up shots of flowers and plants, familiar garden creatures as well as some exotic scenes from around the world.

The floral art classes we reintroduced last year, are proving to be popular with entrants and visitors alike. The theme of 'A Nursey Rhyme' and 'A Night at the Ballet' resulted in very creative and well executed arrangements.

Our VIP guest Jo Legg our local PCSO from the Metropolitan Police, presented the prizes and the certificates of merit which were awarded as follows:

Autumn Show 2019

What a strange summer! Sometimes very hot, sometimes chilly and often wet. However, our gardens and allotments didn’t seem to mind, as for our Autumn Show on 7^th September, the Village Hall was a riot of colour and filled with floral art, flowers, pot plants, vegetables and fruit as well as domestic, photographic and junior entries.

We had photos of our favourite Glebe and Ickenham Green allotments, and we hope to inspire more allotment holders to enter their produce next Autumn. There were also photos of our sunflower competition entries, won this year by the Crawford family with their sunflower measuring a massive 362 cm!

There was a lovely atmosphere in the Hall as the community joined together to enjoy the show with ever popular tea and homemade cakes. Glebe School brought along their ‘Back to School’ bucket of flowers and produce from their garden which had gone a little wild over the 6 week break but offered plenty of pretty colour and interest.

Following judging, the prizes and awards were presented by Lynn Ronayne-Bedhadj from Middlesex Hardy Plant Society and U3A Hillingdon gardening group.

Trophies for the overall winners throughout the year will be presented at the Society’s AGM on 29^th November, meanwhile here is a summary of ‘Best in Section’ certificate winners for this Show.
